Personal Confidence: belonging to a particular person!
We prefer the definition of Personal Confidence as it feels more intimate than Self-Confidence or the singular definition, of Confidence.
Personal Confidence is a choice - the ability to independently decide between alternatives
Personal Confidence is a feeling - unique to each person, a conscious experience of emotion
Personal Confidence is a desire - drives our actions and aspirations to achieve goals
Personal Confidence is a thought - conscious experience can be subjective and profound
Personal Confidence is a behaviour - the vehicle that enables us to have our own unique experiences
Personal Confidence is a challenge - needs effort, skill and determination to achieve progress
Personal Confidence is a habit - shapes so much of our life, it is important to be aware of implications
Obviously, we have played about with the definitions above to ensure we have a wider perspective on the meaning of confidence.
We are all unique and how we interpret 'things' has a significant impact on our life.
It's the informal nature of taking a tiny bit of control back that I like.
Don't fall in love with a dictat.
Personal Confidence: belonging to a particular person!
Taking the initial step in choosing to be confident, will start to build a foundation, which can develop momentum that enables progress to accelerate.
Once a decision is made to become more confident, there is typically hope and an expectancy about future possibilities. This hope is a key factor as it is a driver for motivation, leading to new aspirations.
After the natural excitement of deciding to be more confident, there is a period when, sometimes, hope and doubt collide in the mind. It is vital to stay focussed on the potential value of being more confident.
There are returns to be gained from taking steps forward, however, it is often the case that the hope generated by the idea of being more confident tends to dissipate for some people, due to a range of reasons, particularly a lack of motivation and commitment.
If it is true that some people ‘give up’ before they even begin, what is it that gets in their way and what prevents them from creating the opportunity for a more satisfying life, through the gateway of being more confident?
There is likely a myriad of causes that prevent some people from making a personal commitment to become more confident which automatically closes down future gains. We wonder if they realise the opportunities they may be missing?
With regards to confidence..... is your current situation serving you well?
It’s a personal choice whether to change or stay in the current situation.
There is a recognition that being confident often pays dividends and people who are willing and able to stretch their invisible capabilities tend to gain the rewards of their efforts. Once the benefits of focused effort are experienced it seems that motivation increases, as we can see a pathway that could be of real value.
The hurdles that prevent progress are often ‘behind the scenes’ and don’t explicitly introduce themselves; leaving people to miss the opportunities! The subconscious is a mysterious phenomenon that has a significant impact on our existence. The subconscious operates below the surface, navigating and influencing our thoughts, emotions and behaviours.
What prevents some people from being confident and indeed becoming more confident? There are a wide range of reasons. Sometimes people who lack confidence are just reluctant to change, others maybe can’t see the value in changing, and some people don’t know how to make the change happen. As a result, they miss out on opportunities that could enhance their lives.
Mindset hurdles that may prevent people from stretching their comfort zone:-
- That’s not me!
- I'm afraid of putting myself out there
- I may get ‘it’ wrong
- I haven’t got the skills
- Imagine if I fail
- I hate being judged
- I don’t know how to
- I’m too busy (and other forms of denial)
- I don’t like to challenge others (colleagues/friends)
Potential solutions to build a more self-reliant mindset:-
· Put yourself first more often
· Respect yourself and your qualities
· Take the lead
· Concentrate on your goals, needs etc
· Avoid owning other people's problems
· Say ‘No!’
· Research and study articles, blogs, books
· Create your own definition of Personal Confidence
Benefits and opportunities of being more confident:-
- Personal growth
- New skills and competencies
- Deeper connections with others
- Financial rewards
- Work promotions
- New friendships
- Gain more respect
- It feels good!
Growing Personal Confidence can be a very strong quality to have. Why would you not want to be more confident when the benefits can be transformative?
Finally, the level of desire to change will typically dictate the success of an outcome.
